Purpose ist the reason for being
"Why are we doing what we are ding"
Mission is the task
"What do we do to fulfill our purpose"
Culture is the core values
How do we do things around here
and what's really important for us.
When top echelons of the Church, Cardinals and Bishops are clear about their unique purpose & mission which is primarily to teach Jesus Christ to the people of God and to all others, then the faithful of Jesus pull together, activities tend to be more focused, planning is more practical, opportunities are more easily spotted and grasped.
Church
The Church is a “sheepfold”, the sole and necessary gateway which is Christ -John 10:10. Christ Himself is the good shepherd who gave his life for the sheep. The Church members are all those who “in one spirit are baptized into one body” – 1 Cor. 12:13. The Church is constituted and organized as a society governed by the Pope who by legacy is the successor of St. Peter. The bishops have been delegated certain authorities to minister God’s own people “in communion with the Pope” – Lumen Gentium 8. The Church hierarchy “is not set up to seek earthly glory, but to proclaim this by their own example, humility, and self-denial.” Lumen Gentium 8. Christ the high priest by his salvific actions consecrated “chosen race (through baptism), a royal priesthood, a holy nation” – 1 Peter 2:9. All who are baptized unto Christ are members of “common priesthood of the faithful, the ordained are ministerial or hierarchical priests” -LG 10 set apart to serve the people of God.
The Church, is constituted of all the ordained and un-ordained people of God (the laity). “The bishops govern the particular churches assigned to them by their counsels, exhortations and example …. exclusively for the spiritual development of their flock in truth and holiness, keeping in mind that he who is the leader should be serving” -LG 27.
The Ordained of Syro Malabar Church (SMC)
These days in Syro Malabar Church very few ordained priests and bishops are clear about their purpose in the Church. The kingdom (of Jesus) is “shown out before men in the Word, in the works and in the presence of Christ” - Lumen Gentium 1-5. “When you have a grievance against another, do you dare to take it to the court..?” 1 Cor. 6:1. The present leadership of SMC has clearly gone against the direction of the Bible. They have gone to the court against people of God whom they were set apart to serve.
Presently the official SMC leadership is focused on power, position and money and not Jesus for sure. They have forgotten that they are ordained to minister “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people” 1 Peter 2:9. They do not impart statements to guide the Laity.
For any statement to be a useful guide to the faithful, it must be communicated effectively and acted out by the hierarchy in true faith to the Bible and Vatican II. Are they following this dictum?
It is vital to periodically examine the purpose and mission of SMC by their leadership. A periodic look at the Word, the teachings of Vatican II can rekindle their commitment to Jesus, their work and to one another.
Why the Laity don't do What They are Supossed to do?
Most of the time when the hierarchy do not impart the truth in full to the faithful, then the conscience of the faithful is at conflict with what is told by the hierarchy, then they do not know what they are supposed to do. Most of the faithful now do not believe the hierarchy of SMC.
While a direction must reflect the belief that it is important, meaningful and worthwhile, it must also be clear and understandably specific about what will be achieved.
Constantly Articulating the Mission
Love of Jesus and His people are not the mission of the Church. They are simply the objective.
People need to feel that what they are doing is meaningful and important to the objective of the Church. They need to be able to connect their work with the overall work of the Church. They need to feel that what the Church does matters to the world in some way. The faithful can’t be expected to perform difficult, stressful, demanding work unless they feel their work has a meaningful purpose.
The Laity
All those baptized in Christ, ordained and laity, those in heaven or on earth, form the mystical body of Christ. The full growth of the mystical body depends on the full functioning of each part. A member that does not work for the growth of the body to the extent of his or her possibilities must be considered useless to the church. “The laity are made to share in the priestly, prophetical and kingly office of Christ” Vat II Apostolicam Actuositatem 2 and 1 Peter 2:4-10. Christ is the source of the apostate of the church, then the fruitfulness of the apostate of the lay people depends on their living in union with Christ, “whoever dwells in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5.
Conclusion
We as the members of the mystical body of Christ, whether ordained or un-ordained, must work in unison for the health of the Church. The hierarchy is set apart to serve the faithful for the good of all and not rule over them. //
