Divine Thoughts: Good Friday
Father,
forgive them,
for they know not what they do.
(Luke 23:34).
for they know not what they do.
(Luke 23:34).
Let
me learn to put love where there is no love, O Lord, so that I may find love.

Good Friday teaches a powerful lesson to all who
would learn the lesson of winning by losing. Jesus Christ, hanging on the
cross, uttered nothing but words of love and compassion even when he was being
crucified. To the world it seemed that He had lost as no other person had. His
disgrace was complete, but in His divine heart He knew He had won.
He loved unto death even those who were His worst
enemies. One of the most sublime prayers He ever uttered was: "Father,
forgive them, for they know not what they do."
If each of us would say these words from our heart
and mean them in their fullest sense, we would be making the first big step
towards the peace of the world. "Father, forgive them." Brutality,
sordidness, corruption, bitterness, immorality, are being merchandised on a
scale never before witnessed. One wonders if those who make it their business
to foul up the hearts, minds and souls of countless others really realise the
terrible damage they are doing.
Men despair of changing these very ones in any way
except by force. Stern measures are often needed but if they come from a loving
understanding that is more interested in correcting evil than merely finding
fault, the worst of men can be transformed. /-
